Temperatures are dropping! The much needed rain is pouring down on the farm. The cooler weather is nice for traveling and trailering cattle. Our show season is picking up rapidly, so we are on the road often. We recently traveled to Fletcher, NC for the NC Mountain State Fair. We enjoying fellowshiping with friends and customers, celebrating Radawn's belated birthday, practicing our fitting skills, and showing cattle. Congratulations to the Mackey's for winning Reserve AOB in the District show, 1st place winner in the Open Jr Show, and 1st place in the Open All Breed Heifer Show on Monday, with a calf purchased in April at our 6th Annual Club Calf Sale.
A tip for Manatee County customers: Check your calf's hooves. Trimming may be necessary. Don't wait until right before the show. We don't want your calf to have sore feet and risk decreasing your daily weight gain. Speaking of daily weight gain, we suggest you check the weight per day of gain to make sure you are on track to achieve the weight you desire for January. Pay close attention the weight your are currently at, and the amount/quality of feed you need to be feeding to be at the best possible weight to finish at a desired weight.
For buyers in all areas: Please make sure your cattle have free choice mineral supply. Even though fall is on the way, please stay concerned about keeping your animal cool. This is the perfect time to start growing and training hair. Keep those fans running.
